Inflammation & The Foods That Cause It
Lesson 6
Inflammation is our body’s normal and natural response to injury or attack on the immune system.
Inflammation is commonly described as heat, redness, swelling, and pain.
Chronic, low-level inflammation at the cellular level – known as the “silent killer” – develops without pain and can lead to obesity, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.
Trans-fats, refined grains and sugars, casein, dairy, red meat, gluten, alcohol and food additives are common causes of inflammation in a diet. In this detox, we cut those out, along with soy, to help you reduce your inflammation.
Foods like berries, green tea, wild-caught fish like salmon, ginger, turmeric, leafy greens and sweet potatoes help to drastically reduce inflammation while feeding your body essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients it needs.
Along with incorporating these healthy anti-inflammatory foods, you also want to be sure your lifestyle is in line too.
Inflammation can happen with other variables such as environmental stressors like second-hand smoke and consuming pesticides/herbicides, stress from work or relationships, physical injuries, accuse and chronic illnesses and even genetics.
To help with these factors, be sure to incorporate exercise 3-5 days a week, 30 minutes per day, whether it's walking or boxing classes or anything in between. To help alleviate stress, focus on getting your 7-8 hours of sleep each night and try a meditating app like "Calm" to help you de-stress, even for just 5 minutes.
