Portion Control and the Hunger Scale
Lesson 5
Portion Control
I'm sure you've noticed the insane portions most restaurants serve up, and the disbelief when we read that the serving on our cracker bag is for only 2 crackers. Portions are out of control these days, and none of it really adds up. You might have heard about the hand portion size trick, and it's a great way to keep your portions in check no matter where you are. Here are some examples of proper portions using your hand as a measurement.
Try using these measurements as a guide, or invest in a food scale!
The Hunger Scale
Depending on how active you are will depend on how much food you actually need. Try to listen to your body and use the 1-10 hunger scale as a guideline. It is best to eat between stages 3 and 4 and stop once you are at a 6.
I challenge you to drink one glass of water before each meal to ensure your hunger isn't actually thirst, and this will also help you to feel fuller without as much food.
