Breaking the Detox
Lesson 1
Participating in a detox like this is a complete lifestyle change and a total commitment. All month you've locked up the cookies, threw out the cheese, said sayonara to your nightly glass of wine and put the coffee maker away, all in an effort to cleanse your body of harmful toxins.
I bet you feel incredible now don't you?
The end of a detox will most likely be the most euphoric experience - you feel lighter, brighter, awake and rested. Your digestion has most likely improved, you have more mental clarity and your skin has a glow to it. But those changes won't last if you jump back into heavy, fatty foods. Breaking a detox/cleanse the right way is just as important as the detox itself.
Some detoxes/cleanses are liquid based only, which makes reintegrating back really difficult. Luckily you've been eating solid foods in conjunction with liquids like the protein shakes, teas and fizz sticks. Regardless, you still want to go slowly when reintroducing old foods back in, so that your body has time to digest it.
If you've been craving lasagna or a burger or chips or coffee this whole month, don't just dive right in to a huge portion of it. Go slowly - with whatever you decide to eat or drink. Chew slowly, take a smaller portion, and listen to your body.
