How To: Keep Berries Fresh
When you can find berries in bulk for a really good price you just can't beat it. Learn how to keep them fresh.
Every once in a while, I get two pound boxes of strawberries from Whole Foods for $5.00. It's nuts how great that price is, and there is no way I ever pass that deal up! As most people know, berries, especially strawberries, can turn very quickly, so buying a few containers at a time is tough unless you eat them all within a few days, which can be hard even for me. So what's my trick?
Quick freezing!
As soon as I get home, I wash them, drain them, cut the ends off and line them up in a single layer in the freezer. Once they're frozen, I put them in a freezer bag and grab them when needed. I make a ton of smoothies, so having them frozen only makes them better for smoothies.
You can do the same thing for other berries like blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.
Lining them in a single row to freeze will ensure they don't clump together so you can pull berries out one at a time if needed.
Easy and a great way to take advantage of bulk berries! Also a great way to preserve berries for the winter.
